Sunnylea is characterized by single family homes on large lots with a private drive, most of which were constructed in the 1940’w and 1950’s. The streets are lined with mature trees and pride of ownership is evident. You’ll also notice that there are many homes being “topped up” as well as homes being torn down and rebuilt which makes it a really great neighbourhood to invest in.
Why we like it:
Sunnylea is a very charming, highly sought after neighbourhood with mature trees lining the streets and Mimico Creek meandering through the centre of this Etobicoke pocket. It’s especially desirable amongst young families as Sunnylea is known for it’s top notch schools. It’s a very pedestrian friendly neighbourhood with Bloor street running along the north side where you’ll find all the amenities you require for a full lifestyle. The proximity to Toronto’s downtown core is also a big draw, usually no more than 20 minutes by car or 40 minutes by public transportation.

Public Transportation
Sunnylea residents enjoy the convenience of being within walking distance of the subway or a short bus ride to either Islington or Royal York subway stations.
The Thompson property was renowned for its fruit orchards including plum, cherry, apple and pear. In the late 1800’s the Thompson’s were joined in Sunnylea by families who cultivated fruit and vegetable markets.
In 1907, in the first school built in Sunnylea on Prince Edward Drive, a student names Edna G Whitworth won a contest coming up with the Sunnylea name which eventually became the name of this community.
In the 1930’s and the 1940’s the farms in Sunnylea were subdivided and the neighbourhood was developed.
